How do GovX ID discount codes work?
GovX ID integrates directly with Shopify and ReCharge to create single-use codes in real-time. In other words, there is no work required from you to manage discount codes.
There are a couple of things to know about GovX ID discount codes:
- All codes are unique to your store
- Codes are created in real-time. We don't create batches of codes in advance.
- All codes start with the prefix "GX". This makes our codes easy to identify if you're exporting orders.
- All codes are single-use, so they cannot be shared.
- Customers are limited to 1 code every 24 hours. We also track code redemption. If a customer has an unused code and attempts to claim a new code, we will re-issue the existing code. This prevents customers from stock-piling discount codes for your store.
Shopify discounts
After you download the app, you'll configure your Shopify discount. When you save these settings, the app creates a discount price-rule in your store. You can access this price rule in the "Discounts" menu of your store admin.
Please do not delete or edit this price rule in the Shopify discounts admin. This will cause the price rule to get out of sync with your app settings and could cause problems. If you do accidentally edit the price rule directly, just go to the GovX ID app and re-save your settings. This will cause the price rule to sync with the app settings.
Discount settings
The following settings can be configured via the app to customize your Shopify discount.
1 |
Discount type |
We support both percentage (i.e. 20% off) and fixed amount (i.e. save $5) discounts. |
2 |
Limit to collections |
You can limit the discount to apply only to products in one or more collections. For example, maybe you have a clearance section of already discounted products. You can limit the eligible collections to exclude your clearance section. |
2 |
Limit to products |
You can limit the discount to apply only to specific products. It is not currently possible to limit the discount to individual SKUs within a product. |
3 |
Minimum purchase amount requirement |
You can limit the discount to apply only when a minimum purchase amount is reached (i.e. Apply discount on carts of $50 or more). The minimum purchase amount is calculated based on eligible products in the cart. |
4 |
Minimum purchase units requirement |
You can limit the discount to apply only when a minimum unit amount is reached (i.e. Apply discount on carts of 5 or more items). The minimum purchase units are calculated based on eligible products in the cart. |
You can also combine these rules to create very targeted discounts. For example, you could limit the discount to apply only to orders of 2 or more t-shirts.
ReCharge discounts
Do you offer subscription products via ReCharge? If yes, then GovX ID is perfect for you. We integrate directly with ReCharge to manage unique discounts in real-time. And it only takes a few minutes to set up. Start by connecting your account.
Enabling ReCharge
To enable ReCharge in your GovX ID app, go to your settings and click "Connect ReCharge" at the bottom of the page. You'll be asked to grant access and then we'll automatically connect GovX ID to your ReCharge account.
If you disconnect ReCharge later, it will automatically wipe out any unused discount codes. However, it will not remove discounts that are already applied to live subscriptions.
Discount settings
The following settings can be configured to customize your ReCharge discounts.
1 |
Discount type |
We support both percentage (i.e. 20% off) and fixed amount (i.e. save $5) discounts. |
2 |
Product type |
Choose whether you want to apply the discount to all product types (default), one-time purchases or subscription purchases.
|
3 |
Limit to a collection |
Unlike with Shopify discounts, ReCharge does not allow you to limit a discount to multiple collections. If you do choose to enforce a limit, it must be to a single collection. |
3 |
Limit to a product |
Unlike with Shopify discounts, ReCharge does not allow you to limit a discount to multiple products. If you do choose to enforce a limit, it must be to a single product. |
4 |
Minimum purchase amount |
You can limit the discount to apply only when a minimum purchase amount is reached (i.e. Apply discount on carts of $50 or more). The minimum purchase amount is calculated based on eligible products in the cart. This setting is only applicable if you're limiting the discount to apply on a single usage. If you're setting up a recurring subscription discount, you cannot apply a minimum purchase amount restriction. |
5 |
Discount duration |
This is another ReCharge specific discount setting and it only applies to subscription products. You can control how many times the discount should be applied.
|
6 |
Limit to new customers |
This is a very restrictive setting that limits discount usage in checkout only to customers that don't yet exist in your ReCharge database - meaning they have never shopped with you in the past. In most cases, you shouldn't need to enable this setting. |
7 |
Allow customers to input discount on customer portal |
By default, discount codes can be applied at checkout (by the customer) and in the store admin (by the merchant). However, discounts cannot be applied in the customer portal. This prevents existing subscribers from claiming a code and applying it to an upcoming charge on an existing subscription. If you want to override this setting, check the box to allow customers to input the discount code on the customer portal. |
Keeping codes in sync
When a customer claims a discount and you have ReCharge enabled, we'll create a single-use discount code that is valid in both Shopify and ReCharge. We do all the hard work to ensure that codes stay in sync at all times. If a code is redeemed in one system, we'll expire it in the other. And if you edit your discount settings, we'll make sure the new discount rules are applied to all unused codes in both systems. The result is a seamless experience for your customers and zero maintenance for you.
